Job Opening: PAGE DESIGNER/EDITOR (Concord Monitor)

The Concord Monitor (20,000 circulation and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography) has an opening for an entry-level, five-nights-a-week page designer/editor. We’re looking for someone who works well with others, is energetic and ambitious, and has strong, contemporary design skills as well as an ability to edit text and write headlines.

In addition to this year’s Pulitzer (see concordmonitor.com/rememberme), the Monitor has won many regional and national awards in the past decade, including POY awards for “Best Use of Photos” and picture editing and several Society of News Design awards. Concord is the historic state capital and is located one hour from Boston, one hour from the White Mountains and one hour from the seacoast.

Job Opening: REPORTER (AP)

The Associated Press seeks a Reporter for its Boston bureau.

This Reporter will break news and produce enterprise stories of national interest concerning Boston’s public safety, infrastructure, public works, city transportation, homeland security, gun violence, drug-related crime, minority issues, disaster preparedness and other topics. The cultivation of productive sources in the mayor’s office, the fire department, the police department and other public and private agencies is central to this assignment. Duties will include developing and producing national multimedia stories from the beat.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills as a reporter and writer, with strong competitive news instincts and the ability and desire to produce enterprise. The successful candidate will be experienced in FOIA, database research and enterprise reporting. Applicants should have strong planning and beat-development skills to project needs of the news report beyond spot stories and the ability to develop story ideas for all formats in consultation with bureau managers. The reporter must be an enterprising self-starter able to work with minimal direct supervision yet be responsive to guidance. He or she must have demonstrated abilities to organize time and priorities, spot trends before they become mainstream, and develop beat sources. Must be able to work accurately under deadline pressure and communicate effectively with sources, editors and colleagues across all media platforms. Candidates should have at least two years of full-time reporting experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station or AP bureau.

Internships (WUNI-Boston)

Interns will have hands on experience at Univision New England taking part in a live nightly newscast. Students can expect to be exposed to all phases of  production (based on their knowledge and training).

Students will be assisting news employees with making phone calls, logging tapes, monitoring stories, cutting and organizing highlights and general production assistance.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

New England’s Univision affiliate is looking for a candidate to produce the local Spanish newscast in Boston. Qualified candidate must be able to originate and develop story ideas and concept. Research, write and produce stories for air. Work with reporter, photographers and tape editors in packaging stories.

Coordinate graphic production for the newscast. Field produce projects, write scripts for assigned news segments and perform other duties as assigned by the News Director.

Spanish and English Fluency required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

College Degree Preferred

Previous producing experience required

Ability to use sound judgment in the lineup of news presentation, including original and creative tecniques.

Ability to express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications.

Ability to plan, organize, guide and motivate a group of individuals to accomplish a task.

Knowledge of and compliance with company policies, procedures and government regulations.

Ability and knowledge to apply basic principles and tecniques of supervision.

Must be available to work holidays and hours necessary to perform duties as outlined above.
